Manuka Honey

Today I am writing about a type of honey called Manuka honey, by request from one of my very dedicated readers.  

What is it?

Manuka honey is produced in New Zealand.  This type of honey is considered to be an antiseptic, with antibacterial properties.  It has been touted as a cure for many digestive disorders, arthritis, wound healing, heartburn, acid reflux, acne and more.  

Unfortunately not too many scientific studies have been conducted on this product.  There was one study which did show that for wound healing, manuka honey was more effective than regular honey.  

I unfortunately cannot recommend it as a cure for anything since I do not have any evidence based research results on this product.  Though, it may be helpful for healing cuts and wounds. 

And as a word of caution, never give or use honey on anyone under 1 year old.
