![]() Have you been wondering which is better? That box of old fashioned oatmeal or steel cut oats? Guess what? It doesn't matter. I will tell you what does matter. The steel cut oats are cut differently and thus may have a nuttier taste to them. If you prefer that taste, then great! Old fashioned oats and the steel cut have the same amount of fiber, so you will gain benefits from eating either one. Instant oatmeal is where things get a little tricky. They are more processed and thus lose some of their fiber. I only recommend this if that's the ONLY way you will eat oatmeal. The old fashioned oatmeal takes 5 minutes to cook after boiling, steel cut take a little longer to cook. After boiling, the steel cut take 20-30 minutes. So, it really is a taste and time preference. Whichever you choose, enjoy your oatmeal because it is an awesome whole grain with lots of great heart healthy benefits! Add a little honey, maple syrup or brown sugar. Top with cinnamon, fresh or dried fruit, and a little milk or soymilk if you like. The possibilities are endless!!! Enjoy! |
